Η πρώτη τρισδιάστατη ταινία του βραβευμένου με Όσκαρ Μάρτιν Σκορσέζε, Hugo, συνιστά μια μαγική ιστορία βασισμένη στο βραβευμένο και διακεκριμένο από τους New York Times μπεστ σέλερ του Μπράιαν Σέλζνικ και αφηγείται την ιστορία ενός ορφανού αγοριού που ζει μια μυστική ζωή στο σιδηροδρομικό σταθμό του Παρισιού, αλλά όχι μόνο....
Παρίσι, δεκαετίας του '30 : Ένα 12χρονο ορφανό αγόρι, ο Χιούγκο Καμπρέ, κατοικεί στις εσωτερικές στοές του σιδηροδρομικού σταθμού στο κέντρο της πόλης, φροντίζοντας τα ρολόγια του πολυσύχναστου σταθμού και ζει κλέβοντας από τους πάγκους των καταστημάτων που υπάρχουν στο σταθμό.
Σταθερή παρέα του, ένα μυστηριώδες ανθρωπόμορφο μηχάνημα που έχει στο κέντρο του μία υποδοχή για ένα κλειδί σε σχήμα καρδιάς, το οποίο αποτελεί και το μόνο πράγμα που του έχει απομείνει από τον πατέρα του. Όταν ο κόσμος του συνδέεται ξαφνικά -σαν τα γρανάζια των ρολογιών που φροντίζει- με ένα εκκεντρικό κορίτσι που λατρεύει τα βιβλία και τις περιπέτειες κι έναν πικρόχολο γέρο, ιδιοκτήτη ενός μικρού καταστήματος παιχνιδιών στο σταθμό, η μυστική ζωή και το πολύτιμο μυστικό του Χιούγκο που τον συνδέει με το νεκρό πατέρα του, κινδυνεύουν να αποκαλυφθούν. Ένα αινιγματικό σχέδιο, ένα πολύτιμο σημειωματάριο, μια κλειδαριά σε σχήμα καρδιάς, ένα κλεμμένο κλειδί, ένας μηχανικός άνθρωπος και το καλά κρυμμένο μήνυμα του νεκρού πατέρα του Χιούγκο απαρτίζουν τη ραχοκοκαλιά αυτής της περίπλοκης, τρυφερής και μαγευτικής ιστορίας ενός παιδιού αλλά και του ίδιου του κινηματογράφου που φτάνει και ενίοτε ξεπερνά τα όρια της μαγείας...
